Striped dress



Pullover or mini-dress? Let's just say striped dress, a garment for all occasions. Pair it with opaque leggings for a sophisticated purist look.

Size: 34/36, 38/40, and 42/44. Figures for sizes 38/40 and 42/44 are given in parentheses, in ascending order, separated by a dash. If only one figure is given, it applies for all sizes.

Materials: ITO “Kinu” (100% silk, approx. 425 m/ 472 yds/ 50 g) 200 (200-250) g each of White, col 121, and Black, col 120; addi knitting needles, size 3 mm (US 2-3).

Rib pattern: k 2, p 2 alternately.

Stocking stitch: k RS rows, p WS rows

Full-fashioned decreases: Right edge: selvage st, k 1, skp = slip 1 st kwise, k the foil st, psso. Left edge: Work up to 4 sts before end of row, then k 2 tog, k 1, selvage st.

Stripe order: Work alternately 15 rows with white and 15 rows with black.

Tension gauge: 26 sts and 36 rows of stocking stitch with 2 strands of yarn = 10x10 cm/4" x 4".

Attention: Use 2 strands of yarn!

Back: With 2 strands of black, cast on 140 (150-160) sts. For the hem band, work 2 cm/3/4" = 8 rows of rib pattern. Then change to stocking stitch, dec 4 sts (= k 2 tog), evenly spaced, in 1st row = 136 (146-156) sts. Work 7 more rows with black, then cont in given stripe order. When work measures 17 cm/63/4" = 62 rows from end of hem band, work 1 full-fashioned dec on each side, to begin waist shaping, then work 1 full-fashioned dec on each side of every 6th row 12 more times = 110 (120-130) sts. After 45 cm/ 173/4" = 162 rows from end of hem band, make 1 st (= pick up horizontal thread and k 1) on each side, before/after the selvage st. Then inc 1 st on each side of every 20th row 2 more times in same manner = 116 (126-136) sts. After 62.5 (61.5-60.5) cm/241/2" (241/4''-24") = 226 (222-218) rows from end of hem band, cast off 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, to begin armholes, and shape armholes as foll: work 1 full-fashioned dec on each side of every 2nd row 6 times and on each side of every 4th row 2 (4-6) times = 90 (96-102) sts. After 19 (20-21) cm/71/2" (8"-81/4") = 68 (72-76) rows from beginning of armholes, at end of last white stripe, change to black and work rib pattern. Cast off 7 (8-9) sts at beginning of next 2 rows, to begin shoulder shaping, and cast off 7 (8-9) sts at beginning of foll 2 rows = 62 (64-66) sts. After 2 cm/3/4" = 8 rows of rib pattern, cast off remaining 62 (64-66) sts.

Front: Work as for back.

Sleeve: With 2 strands of black, cast on 56 (58- 60) sts. For wrist band, work 2 cm/3/4" = 8 rows of rib pattern. Then change to stocking stitch, dec 4 sts (= k 2 tog), evenly spaced, in the 1st row = 52 (54-56) sts. Work 14 more rows with
