Materials:
Lana Grossa "Cool Wool Big" (100% Merino Wool extrafine, yardage = 120 m/50 g) 650 (700) g dark gray heather (#617).
Knitting needles one pair each sizes US 6 and 7 (4 and 4.5mm).
4 buttons (gray heather, 1"/23 mm, from Union Knopf).
2 edge sts for front borders: On RS rows at beg of row: Slip 2 sts purlwise with yarn in back of work; at end of row, k2. On WS rows at beg of row: Slip 2 sts purlwise with yarn in front of work, at end of row, p2.
Rib Pat: K1, P1 Rib.
Stockinette st: Knit on RS rows, purl on WS rows.
Full-Fashioned Single Dec: at beg of row: k2, k2tog; at end of row: work to last 4 sts, SKP (= slip 1 st, k1, pass slip st over k1), k2.
Full-Fashioned Double Dec: at beg of row: k2, k3tog; at end of row: work to last 5 sts, SK2P (= slip 1, k2tog, pass slip st over k2tog), k2.
Full-Fashioned Inc: at beg of row: k2, M1 (insert LH needle into horizontal strand between last st worked and next st on needle, k through back lp of strand); at end of row: work to last 2 sts, M1, k2.
Gauge: St st with US 7 (4.5mm) needles: 17 sts and 24 rows = 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm.
Back: With US 6 (4mm) needles cast on 99 (107) sts and work in Rib Pat for 2 3/4"/7 cm. Change to US 7 (4.5mm) needles cont in St st until piece measures 16 1/2"/42 cm above rib. For the armhole shaping, work full-fashioned single dec each side on next row, then work full-fashioned double dec every 2nd row 4 times = 81 (89) sts. Work even until armhole measures 8 1/2 (9)"/22 (23)cm. For the shoulder shaping bind off 6 (8) sts at beg of next 2 rows, 7(8) sts at beg of next 4 rows. At the same time with 1st shoulder dec, for the neck shaping bind off the center 33 sts and working both sides at once, bind off from each neck edge 2 sts twice.
Pocket Linings: (make 2): With US 7 (4.5mm) needles cast on 27 sts and work in St st for 2 3/4"/7 cm, then place sts on a holder.
Left Front: With US 6 (4mm) needles, cast on 62 (66) sts and work in pats as foll: on WS: 2 edge sts (as described), 59 (63) sts Rib Pat, beg and end with k1, p1 (selvage st). Cont in pats until piece measures 2"/5 cm from beg. Work the 1st buttonhole (= yo, k2tog for each buttonholes) at 9 sts from front edge, with the other 3 buttonholes spaced 3 1/2"/9 cm apart. When piece measures 2 3/4"/7 cm from beg, work in pats as foll: K1 (selvage st), 42 (46) sts in St st, for the front band work 17 sts Rib Pat and 2 edge sts.
When piece measures 2 3/4"/7 cm above rib, for the pocket opening, place the 10th - 36th (14th - 40th) from RH side on a holder, work the 27 sts Pocket Lining sts in place of sts on holder and cont over all sts until piece measures 14 1/2 (15)"/37 (38) cm from beg. For the neck shaping, work k2tog at neck edge (end of RS rows and before 2 edge sts) on next row, then every 6th row 12 times more. At the same time work armhole and shoulder shaping at side edge (beg of RS rows) same as Back. Cont over rem 20 sts in rib for back neckband for 5"/13 cm, then bind off.
Right Front: Work to correspond to Left Front, reversing all shaping and working neck dec at beg of RS rows after 2 edge as SKP (= sl 1 knitwise, k1, pass sl st over k1).
Sleeves: With US 6 (4mm) needles cast on 50 (54) sts and work in Rib Pat for 2 3/4"/7 cm Change to US 7 (4.5mm) needles and cont in St st. Work full-fashioned inc st each side on the 5th row, then every 8th row 13 times more = 78 (82) sts. Work even until piece measures 18"/46 cm above rib. For the cap shaping, work full-fashioned single dec each side every 2nd row 7 times. Bind off rem 64 (68) sts.
Finishing: Block pieces to measurements. Slip the 27 sts on pocket holder to US 6 (4mm) needles and work in Rib Pat for approx 1"/2.5 cm, then bind off in rib. Sew sides of pocket border in place. Sew pocket linings to WS. Sew shoulder seams. Sew side of back neckband along back neck, then sew ends of band tog at center back neck. Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
